Has anyone used a printer server (with a serial port) over ip?
Ie control plasma etc but just use a network cable?
I understand this should work and would open up the use of serial controllers over a network.
I guess the global cache sort of works like this??
serial over ip
serial over ip

Thought I would bring this over for info
OK
I can see this generated a great deal of interest !!!!
I have purchased an Equinox ESP 10/100 unit. This has 8 serial ports ,which is attached to your network and allows control via your network( or internet). Advantage for me is that I have a couple of serial devices I wish to control which are nowhere near my server. I already have a network in place so attaching the unit locally is a bonus.
The software installs 8 No com ports to windows, so,hopefully Housebot will be able to communicate with it fine.
I have also bought a single port lantronix device which allows the same sort of idea.( yet to test this).
Best of all the equinox unit cost £8.50 and the lantronix £3.25 plus P&P.
Bargain!!!
May help someone with the same problem
