Help files not found

Post by kilowatt »

I've been using housebot since before Meedio bought it. After installing many versions over the years, somewere along the way it got confused so it doesn't find the help files anymore. I know where they are so I just go there and pull them up when I need them but I'm wondering how It knows where they are located.

This has happened on both computers I have running. HouseBot is installed in "C:\Program Files\HouseBot" and the help files are in "C:\Program Files\HouseBot\Help".

I looked in the registry but did not find a key pointing to the help files.

I get "Unable to Find HouseBot Help file [HouseBot.chm]" When I try to bring up the main help page from the help menu

All of the help files should be in a directory called Help that sits inside the main HouseBot directory.

That is where mine are but I still get this message...

Oh wait... I figured out it is a side effect of the fact I start HouseBot as a service using FireDeamon. If I start it normaly using the start menu icon it finds the help files fine.

Strange though... I tell it to "start in" the same startup directory as the normal start menu icon. So I'm not sure the difference.

Anyway don't worry about it....

I had the exact same thing happen when starten HB from some kind of Server Service. I remember even seeing some more odd behaviour. If you ever figure out how to fix this, I would be interested in your solution. I run HB from a script now that keeps the server alive after a crash, but I rather HB do this itself, or have it done by some true service manager.
