Database Error - Record is Deleted
That's one I had not seen before on HB server startup. This dialog box ("Database Error") opens during HB server startup. Clicking either OK (to the "record is deleted" message) or closing the window does nothing, and the server never starts. I had to restore to last night's version of Housebot under Program Files. (Yet another reason to make backups!) I had done nothing to HB between when it worked to when it didn't. But apparently something got corrupted. Working now, But what does that message mean?

Re: Database Eror - Record is Deleted
I'm not exactly sure. It sounds like the DB was corrupted somehow.

Re: Database Error - Record is Deleted
I have had this happen twice now during power glitches.....
I tired to restor from a backup and that gave the same error.
I read somewhere else on the site that you could "repair" the database in access so we will see if that helps..

Depending on the OS, there's typically somewhere in the drive configuration that allows you to disable the write caching for the disk. Although it may diminish performance somewhat, I would highly recommend disabling the write cache for the disk that stores the HouseBot database. This will help to ensure that if the power is lost and the machine is not properly shut down that the database will retain the data integrity.

Here it is in XP:
Start --> My computer --> {Right click on c:, choose properties} --> Hardware tab --> Properties button --> Policies tab.
Highly recommended if you have a machine that is prone to sudden and abrupt stoppage. I have never noticed a decrease in performance - maybe on a general purpose desktop, but never on a single/limited-use device like a HB server.

Re: Database Error - Record is Deleted
I think i'll leave it as it is a windows home server and just buy a UPS for it.
That should prevent the power dips and inccorect shutdowns
But thanks for the idea

Re: Database Error - Record is Deleted
MY HB server IS on a UPS and just a few weeks ago, after a windows restart (after one of those automatic updates), the database got corrupted and HBserver would not start. I was able to restore HBDATA.MDB from a backup. Back up early and often!
