external control -- launch panels remotely

One piece missing from the external control is the ability to move to a specific panel from a remote command.

For eg. If I launch TheaterTek on the HTPC via myHTPC, I would like to set the panel displayed in HouseBot on the HCPC to the PC-DVD controls panel so that I can control TT from my HouseBot panels the same as if I had navigated there internally in HouseBot. Since panels are named, I would think it would be possible to have a command like the others where I pass the panel name.

You can't do it directly from the External Control EXE, but what you can do is:
  1. Create a Task that has a "Control Remote" Action.
  2. Have the Task action "Open Panel" and supply the name of the Panel to open.
  3. When running the External Control EXE, specify the Task name for opening the Panel.

Yes that would be a good workaround for the short term. As the system grows it would be nice to avoid having all those extra task definitions.

I agree. The only reason that you can't control it with the External Control EXE is that the Control Remote feature was added after the External Control EXE was developed. It's not a good reason, it's just the reason. I've never had a chance to revisit this, but I will at some point.
