Enerstat, DSC thermostat, Statnet, Serial Stat

Well, I got some DSC thermostats to go with my DSC security system. After doing much digging, I have come to the following conclusion:
I think these stats all run on RS485. Best I can tell, they use a set of simple ASCII commands to run and query the stats.
So, I should be right in thinking that by using a RS232 -> 485 converter, I should be able to run these with a generic serial device?
If anyone wants data, I have a small collection of documentation for these and other (not as common to use) communicating t-stats.
Once again, I am no programmer. I am offering up one of my thermstats (Either HAI or DSC) to the first person who gets a plugin operational for either style. I think the HAI may be a better product, but I like the cosmetics of the statnet (DSC) units better.....
Thanks
