IR Frequency

I have searched the forums and am unable to find an answer to this for some reason. I have added a remote to Housebot; but I'm not sure what to put in the 'frequency' khz box. I have a remote (manufactured by funai I believe) that is for a symphonic flat panel tv. Housebot seems to learn the codes without a problem; but it does not work when I 'test' the code. I'm guessing I have the frequency wrong; but I don't know where to find the frequency for the remote. Any ideas?

Try 38

IR Frequency

I have used 38 and it isn't working. I saw that listed as a default somewhere; but I guess what I'm asking is what does that number refer to and how would I find out what the number should be for a particular remote.

HB seems to learn the code without any problem; but when I test it nothing happens on the TV (ie the power doesn't come on)

What interface are you using?

If usbuirt, does the indicator led flash when tested.Do you other equipment working using the interface?Check what channel you are transmitting on /suggest using all for testing.

USBUIRT

Yes to both (I setup the Tivo remote and it worked using 38)

>Check what channel you are transmitting on /suggest using all for testing.

I think I'm using Left, that was another setting that I wasn't clear on. Do you know if these settings are documented anywhere? I don't know enough about IR to know how to set these values (or where to find the information).

Ok

The Usbuirt also has a stereo jack at the rear(left and right channel) with the usbuirt being front..So you can effectively send to three different zones.

If you set the code learnt to all it will send the ir signal to all zones.

Therefore, change the zone to all(or front) and save, then test, it should now work.

Hope this helps

Still no luck...

Tried it, still didn't work. Not real sure how to troubleshoot this. Is the frequency a potential issue, or do most all remotes use 38?

Pm me and I may have something that will help.

The Frequency is only used by some of the Hardware Interfaces. The USB UIRT doesn't use the value you specify in the HouseBot UI, so you can set it to anything. Very confusing... I know. :?

I would suggest using an IR emitter that has a visible LED that flashes to help troubleshoot the transmission problem. You can also enable tracing from the Hardware Interface. It's mostly technical tracing, but it may give you an idea of where the problem is (like if you don't see it even trying to send anything).

I actually am using an IR transmitter to send the signal to the TV that is downstairs. I have verified that the transmitter is working by taking the remote for the TV and using it from the same spot as the USB-UIRT; and it works fine. Both the USB-UIRT and the radio shack IR transmitter light up when I test the code; but the TV doesn't come on (it doesn' tcome on when using Housebot, the TV does come on if I use the TV's remote from the same spot)...

Another option is to see if you can find the remote code on Remote Central in their file library. Sometimes you can find discrete codes, but sometimes you have to extract them from CCF files. But if you can get the pronto code, you can enter it manually, instead of going through the learn phase.

Following on from Scotts reply there are few more options to try.

I guess from your previous note you are using a wireless transmitter to send the signal downstairs to the TV ( I had a small issue with one of these using the usbuirt). If you can, use a video camera to see if the signal is actually being transmitted. ie point it at the the part that is sending the signal to the tv. You will see a flickering white light not visible to the human eye

Learn another item from the same remote to see of this works.

Some remotes use toggle codes to send the signal.

If you are still stuck I contacted Jon from usbuirt with one piece of equipment I had problems with and he sent me another small program to learn the code and do some playing with I then just cut and paste into Housebot.

Maybe give him a try and post the outcome

Those are good suggestions. I can see flickering lights from the USB-UIRT and from the IR Transmitter but the TV doesn't turn on. I can use the TV's remote with the IR Transmitter, and the TV does turn on. I can also use other remotes to power on/off other equipment (just not this particular Symphonic TV that's giving me fits). So the problem seems to be with this one remote.

I would first make sure you have fresh batteries, sometimes learning codes with weak batteries does't work to well.

Also you could try teaching the code to a learning remote, and see if it can learn the code correctly. If it does then you know your problem is with usb-uirt or somewhere else.

If you give me the model number of the tv, I can see if I can find some

codes for it.

good luck :D

That's a good suggestion. I did that, and the learning remote was able to learn the codes and can toggle the power and change the volume (which is really all I'm trying to do).

This is the TV I'm struggling with:

Symphonic 15" LCD TV, WF15L5

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=4257515

If you do find codes for it, please post where/how as I suspect I will need to get very good at sluething out codes on the net. I have tried extensively; but I feel like I'm not searching with the right terms or something, as it seems like the codes should be out there.

Thanks for your help.
