Raw "LIRC Style" Infrared

Is there any chance of supporting LIRC style simple infrared tranceivers? These are *very* simple serial hardware interfaces that you can build yourself. The receiver just removes the carrier frequency from the the IR signal and all timing analysis and decoding is done in software. The receiver can be used to learn IR codes which can be transmitted on dirt cheap serial transmitters. LIRC and WinLIRC are opensource projects on sourceforge (http://winlirc.sourceforge.net/).
A simple (cheap) IR interface would make a great plug-in for HB. The alternative is to use Girder to control WinLIRC from HB.
