HouseBot

I'm trying to figure out how I got to where I am. I'm running HB server 2.10 and HB Remote 2.20 and have been since pre-Meedio. As I recall, I stayed at that level because the VB wrapper (?) plug-in was not transferred to Meedio and it was needed for either the Weather plug-in or maybe Jukebot. Dunno - as I said, its been awhile. So now that we're back in an environment that actually encourages development I thought I'd upgrade to 2.3. Is that possible while maintaining all the functionality of 2.20? And the whole thing about license keys has me spooked too, as I don't think I every had one or if I did I never used it - and certainly don't know what it is. Suggestions?

It's good to see you back. I saw your post on the Meedio forums, but I'm trying to let those threads die.

Version 2.31 still doesn't include the VB platform for the old VB SDK Devices. You may be able to find a way to get it to work, but it's not really supported or tested.

To upgrade to 2.31, you have to first download and install the 30-day trial and then purchase a license key to unlock the expiration. The upgrade *should* be painless, since there weren't really any big feature enhancements between the 2.10 release. Although HouseBot is no longer free (like in the olden days), it's still pretty cheap considering the alternatives.

Scott, thanks for the reply. It sounds like I'm stuck in 2.10 until and unless the VB issue is fixed. Is it the Weather plug-in that uses it? That's what I recall, but its been several years (as you well know). I have no problems with buying the current version, if only to support 'the cause', but it seems silly to buy it and then not even use it. If its the weather app, maybe I could live without it or find an alternative. What are others doing, or am I the only one still using ancient code?

I use a weather script that was created by Alan a long time ago. Not sure if it's still around, but I recall seeing some other weather scripts that are somewhere in the forums. BTW, the VB Script Device DOES work. It's just any Devices that were created with the old VB SDK won't work.

If you're not seeing any problems then there is probably no reason to upgrade.

I'm using Alan's weather plug-in too, although I wasn't sure it was his until you mentioned it was his. Ok, I'll hang in there with 2.10 until you give me a reason to upgrade. So give me a reason! I'm also waiting for Jim Mc to finish his mega media plug-in. I need something to replace Meedio Essentials with.
