Speech output over the phone?

I am in the process of building a new house. I would really like to have speech/voice output from HouseBot in the new place but I'm not sure how best to do it. Originally I thought I might run speakers to various locations (although I'm not sure yet how I would drive them).

Another idea came to mind though. I have Panasonic KX-TD816 phone system which has built-in paging/intercom. I can dial 33* from any extension and make a voice announcement to all the phones. I realized that if there was some kind of device that did text-to-speech but had the ability to output the result over the phone that might be a good solution. Is anyone aware of a device that can do this?

Check out mbrola @ http://tcts.fpms.ac.be/synthesis/mbrola.html
It should have a command line to do this.

I have had text-to-speech running on and thru HB for some time. Of course, the output is thru the PC speaker (or whatever is connected to the sound card). There are several text-to-speech software applications out there. You'll need the text2speech plug-in, which uses the MS text--to-speech app. See the Help file that comes with it. But it seems that the big issue will be sending the key system the 33* code and the actual audio interface twixt the HB server box and the KTU.
