Volume Control Issue

For all the Script Genius,
Here is the situation, I hope it make sense: I have a (Dummie) IR Music Receiver controlled by my HouseBot and my Usbirt. I never know where the volume is at, because the IR Music Receiver is in my Computer closet.
The problem is when my wife wants to adjust the music volume she gets "button" pushing happy. Which has my houseBot program start adjusting the volume. She might push the button "Vol Up" ex. 20 times. The 20 Vol Up presses go into a cache (maybe not the right word), and after she stops pressing the "Vol Up" the volume keeps going up accountly.
Of course Housebot is slower than the original remote.
Is there something in Housebot program or a script that someone has; that if a button is pressed say 100 times, it will only register when a "button press" is run and executed. Or a stop command when the button is no longer pressed (like clear the cache). Any Ideas.
Thanks
