TV Listings

Post by joed »

Hi

I am trying to find the theme that will display the xmltv listing data in housebot.

The help system says:

The HouseBot web site provides a sample TV Listing configuration that can be imported into HouseBot. The sample includes a Theme with controls that are preconfigured using the information provided here. The sample configuration includes:
Preconfigured TV Listing Device. Only the path to the XMLTV application and grabber name must be set (when prompted).
Sample Theme with preconfigured controls already setup to link the TV Listing Device and all of its properties.
Sample Task to retrieve updated TV listings each night.
Dummy TV Tuner Device that has a Channel Property that is changed when a channel is selected from the Theme
.

Where can I find the sample TV Listing configuration referred to in this help page?

Is this the best way to get the dowmloaded XMLTV data displayed in housebot?

Thanks,

Joe

Joe,

None of the samples have made it over yet. I've attached the sample to this post.

Well, it's the easiest. If you want data formatted differently than the HouseBot TV Listing Device does it, then you will need to do it another way.

Be sure to read the online help for the TV Listing Device. It talks about how to setup your XMLTV account (if you have not done this already).

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the download.

FYI, HouseBot started program checking after I installed. The interesting this is that after restarting HouseBot several times, it stays up.

Anyway, when I run the "local software remote", I get the list of channels but no program info. Where is the database stored ? How can I check that it is getting correctly stored?

Thanks,

Joe

If you're having problems with getting the listings, I'd suggesting working with the TV Listing Device in HouseBot instead of the Software Remotes. It's just one less variable.

You will need to set the Retrieve Listing property of the TV Listing Device to Yes for it to get the listing data. If you are having problems at this point, make sure you have XMLTV setup correctly and can run it successfully stand-alone. When it gets the data, it will populate the database (Listings.mdb). This database is then read and processed by the TV Listing Device in different ways depending on the Listing Channel and Selected Program ID properties. I have a Task that automatically sets the Retrieve Listing property to yes every night so I always have the latest listings.

Be sure to read the online help for the TV Listing Device. I think it works well once it's setup right, but it can be tricky to get XMLTV, the TV Listing Device, and the Theme all working and playing well together.

If HouseBot is crashing in any way, check to see if it creates any dump files. You can find them in the \HouseBot\Dump directories. If you get one, please send it to me.

Hi Scott,

In the TV Listing Sample Device I can edit te "Selected Program ID" field and things like "Program Description" display real programming information. It is just that when I try to use the Theme "TV Listing Sample" as a Software remote (is there another way to launch this theme?) all I get is the channel lineup but no programming info.

So you get the channel list and the program list displayed on the SWRemote. But when you click on a program in the list, it doesn't update the program description field above the lists?

Check to make sure that the Program Description property of the TV Listing Sample Device is getting set correctly when you click on a program from the list.

You can only run Theme's on Software Remotes. One easy way to test Themes out is to configure the Local Remote Software Remote to use the Theme you are testing. On the HouseBot server machine you can then select Local Software Remote from the HouseBot program group to run it locally.
