Anyone got HouseBot to send a SMS Text Message??

Post by talisman »

I have an alarm system that can ring a few phone numbers if the alarm is activated. Which is great if you have a landline..... which i dont!!! Just a mobile phone user im afraid!!

Does anyone know or has figured a way to get HouseBot to send an SMS TEXT message to you if a state is activated?

So if my alarm activates it changes a state in HB and then a task/script whatever activates a SMS message ??

If you can send emails there are email <> SMS gateways available, thats how I get my HB to alert me

Hi Starfire. would you mind giving me a guide as to how to set that up as that would solve my landline problem, so that i can get text alerts to the alarm going off.

Thanks for the reply appreciate it so quick.

Don't know how detailed you want, here are the basics:-

Add an Email Sender device into bousebot and configure it

Setup a task that changes the Send Message property to Yes to send the email, you can change the Message Subject as you see fit

I use http://www.vgsmail.com to as my email <> SMS gateway, you supply the phone number of the mobile in the email recipient field and vgsmail then sends an SMS containing the email body to the mobile.

No problems. BTW, I'm not sure if vgsmail will take new users as they were going to be closing down but there are probably lots of other gateways you could use.

Not sure about over seas, but here in the US, the major wireless carriers support email to cellphone. For example, I can send an email to [email protected] and eventually I will get the message on my cell phone. Granted it has to be a short email. They also provide a website to do it too.

You may may want to check and see if your wireless carrier provides the same type of feature.
Thanks,
