Zwave Thermostat and Touchscreen PCs

Post by pythonpoole »

Hello, I'm a bit new to HouseBot and would appreciate some community input.

I am currently looking at this Zwave thermostat: http://www.asihome.com/ASIshop/product_ ... ts_id=3487
To be used with this USB Zwave controller: http://www.asihome.com/ASIshop/product_ ... ts_id=3318
Together they are just shy of $90, which seems like a pretty good deal.
The question of course is whether HouseBot supports this hardware.
----

Also I would like to know if anyone has tried this touch screen PC: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27441
At less than $220 shipped, the SmartQ 7 boasts a 7" touchscreen, 667 Mhz Arm processor, WiFi, Bluetooth and more.
The problem is, the default operating system is Linux... However there are third party forums & blogs where users have provided detailed instructions on how to install Win CE / Windows Mobile 6.0 on them. The manufacturer is also (apparently) officially supporting Windows Mobile 6.0, but it seems to be only available in Chinese. Some users reported however that the WiFi doesn't work on CE.

Does anyone have any experience with this device or have any info regarding its compatibility?
----

Lastly, I was also looking at these DT366 'Research' pads on eBay.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/DT-Research-DT366-DT ... 286.c0.m14
At about $160 a piece, they aren't half bad (allbeit a bit used)... Ruggadized, 8.4" screen, 533 Mhz processor & 256 mb of ram.

The problem is that although they fully support Win CE 5.0, they run on an AMD Geode processor which I think must be x86 architecture. Is there any way to get the SWRemote running on one of these? I found another post on this forum about the same touchpad but there didn't seem to be any follow-up on whether they got it working in the end.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have not tested the Zwave thermostat plugin with that particular thermostat, but 'technically' it should work since it should support the Z-wave thermostat device class. However, if you get it, I would hold on to the receipt.

HouseBot does work with the thinkstick, however there seems to be an issue with the latest firmware (4.30). If you down-rev the firmware to 4.27, it should work fine.

I have not experience with that device, but I would be VERY interested in know if it works also.

I was able to build a version of the Software Remote for that device and the initial report was that it worked. If you, or anyone, is interested in using the CE5 x86 Software Remote, you can download it here.

Thanks Scott,

I just purchased a DT touchpad and I'm optimistic that I'll be able to get it working with the new x86 build, thanks.

I also purchased the thermostat and thinkstick and we'll see how that works out, I'm hoping I don't have to return it since it will meaning shipping it back overseas.

Thanks again.

Let us know how it works. I may get one myself if it works.

THe webdt is a cool little device but there is NO software for it.

Scott was able to compile SWremote for me and so far its working great.

You can isntall WIndows XPe on it but that gets expensive.

there is a forum for them here:

www.webdt.org.

If anyone has any questions let me know.
I have a webdt 366.

Actually, I'm more interested in the SmartQ 7 than the DT (I misread the post). The DT looks nice, but it's spec says it has about 2hr of battery vs. 6-10hr for the SmartQ. I'm really looking for something with more battery life and a screen bigger than a PocketPC.

Just thought i would throw in that the WebDT has an 8 inch touch screen and it more of a portable thin client than a pocket pc as it runs CE embedded not windows mobile.

About the only things it does well is SWremote and Remote Desktop.
