RFXCOM & OWL CM119

Post by robobbi »

Hi everyone!
Is there someone who knows whether and how is possible to add/manage the OWL CM119 (Wireless Energy Meter) by the RFXCOM USB Interface (receiver)?
Many thanks...

The CM119 is not (yet) supported by HouseBot.
The CM113 is supported and must be configured as a cent-a-meter.

I supposed it ... :( But ... your (yet) leads me to hope that someone is working on this new feature ... is it true or I would do better to find other solutions, eg writing an xAP module ?
Thanks

The CM113, Electrisave and cent-a-meter are not real power meters but a current meter that reports current values which makes it very difficult to calculate a power usage. It will never be accurate because the voltage is not measured. The same is through for the CM119. The sensor of the CM119 reports a power usage but is using a fixed voltage parameter in the sensor.
The other option is the RFXMeter with RFXPwr or RFXPulse modules to measure the whole house power usage.
- If your utility meter has a blinking LED that indicates the power usage you can use the RFXPulse module. This module counts the number of LED blinks and is reported to HouseBot. The RFXPulse counter will run at the same rate as the utility meter.
- Or use a RFXPwr which has a CT (Current Transformer) that measures the current and it has a power adapter connected that enables the voltage measurement. By means of this RFXPwr you are able to measure the real power usage. Connect a RFXPwr to each power phase and you have the whole house power metering. The accuracy is about 3%.

Bert,

when I bought the OWL CM119 I was well aware of its metering limits. Nevertheless my main interest was/is to use it for measuring critical picks and switching off the mainly suspected sockets (eg. washing machines, ..) to avoid the power breach on the general switch outside my home.

So, understanding that CM119 is not among the best equipments for watt/ampere metering my wish now is just to understand if in the next future I can hope to see my CM119 visible and manageable by Housebot.

I see the CM119 string in the tracing debug data of the RFXCOM RX Interface, the protocol is known and implemented in the RFreceiver source code, so my assumption was: little effort -> feature close to be released ;)

Should I insert my question/wish in the "Features Request" section?

Thanks a lot

Scott can make a beta version available that supports the OWL CM119 received by the RFXCOM 433.92MHz receiver (with 89000 option)

Please let me know if you would like to test the OWL CM119 in HouseBot.

That's fine with me.
Please, let me know how can I have it for testing.
