Protection

Post by kolesar007 »

HI,

I run HB on computer that is used for other things then HB and I want to protect HB from unautorized access? or only protect script for editing.
I think microsoft can decode their scripts that they are unreadable.

You can have the HouseBot server application automatically lock the UI with a password. This is done by setting the password and timeout in the Settings (Main Menu / Settings / Program Options).

I'm not sure about encrypting the scripts.

Does the checkbox next to the "Password Protect" edit control stay checked? What do you have the timeout set to?

Perhaps another way for you to completely keep Housebot save from other users:
Have housebot start as a service (there are a lot of programs around the internet for this) under it's own user account.
Then set the read / write settings of the housebot folder so that only this account can open it and do the same for the scripts you're using in housebot.

As long as your housebot doesnt need to have access to the GUI this should work.
(I'm running it like that for about a year now without problems)

Accidental plus in this setup: When you set up housebot as a service, you also have a lot of control of what should happen if housebot would ever crash.
Hope it helps.

Scottbot: When I open properties next time checkbox is unchecked. I set time to 10s for test and then set other values and nothing better.

Lostdreamer: Interesting concept. I try this

I'm not sure why it wouldn't stay set. Are you running HouseBot as an admin user (windows admin user)? If not, try that.

I just tested with 3.30 and it works. Not sure what the issue could be.
