Configure PPC Remote
Configure PPC Remote
Hopefully there's a simple answer for this one. I'm having difficulty figuring out how to re-configure the setup for my PPC software remote. I recently changed the IP address for my HouseBot server system and now the PPC remote is obviously unable to connect. I need to change the setup configuration for the remote software, however can't seem to figure it out and haven't been able to find this documented anywhere.
On a 'normal' PC, right click on an open spot in the Software remote panel. A pop-up menu should come up with a Configuration option. Not sure if you can do that on the PPC.
There maybe some command line options that would bring the configuration window. Can't confirm this right now because the HouseBot server is hiding from me on my PC. Check the help for these options.

Right, this is in the helpfile under "Software Remote Command Line Options":
- /ip _._._._
Specifies an alternate server address. The address can be an IP address or a DNS name. This value will override the value specified in the Software Remote configuration. - /theme “theme name”
Specifies the name of a Theme configuration to use. This will override the Theme that is configured for the Software Remote on the HouseBot server. - /config Set
Will display the Software Remote configuration dialog upon startup. This option is intended to be used when the Software Remote configuration is invalid and will not start. - /name "Remote Name"
Specifies the name of the Software Remote. This name will override the Software Remote Name configured in the Software Remote configuration screen.
An easy way to always have the config screen handy on the PPC remote is to create a little button in the theme designer that is a link to the config screen. I created a button that blends in with my design for my PPC skin and placed it in the bottom corner with no label. Only I know it's there. One touch and the config options pop up. Easy.
You can use the command line arguments that Alan listed to specify the IP address of the HouseBot server.
If the Software Remote fails to connect to the server, the next time it is started it should display a message box asking whether you want to view the configuration screen (in case the IP or something has changed). Be sure to click 'Yes' and enter the configuration where you can set the new IP address.
If you need, I can give you the registry settings where the IP address is stored so you can change them manually.

I had attempted multiple times by starting the app and each time it would try to connect, after about 5 minutes of trying, I would stop it by clicking cancel, which would of course bring up my previous theme. I didn't have a configure button on that, so I was stuck in this loop.
Thanks to your responses, I went out and found a command line tool for my PPC and was able to start it with the /config Set option which brings up the config screen.
I'm back in business ... thanks
